On January 20, 2025, the European Commission launched a call for evidence to inform the development of the European Oceans Pact, a political initiative aimed at promoting sustainable ocean management and safeguarding the health, resilience, and productivity of the oceans—thereby supporting the prosperity of the EU’s coastal communities.
The European Oceans Pact strives to establish a more integrated and holistic approach to ocean governance, encompassing both internal and external policies across all sectors. Its key objectives include:
- Ensuring a healthy, resilient, and productive ocean
- Advancing a sustainable and competitive blue economy, including fisheries and aquaculture.
- Developing a comprehensive agenda for marine knowledge, research, innovation, and investment.
The Blue Growth Farm (BGF) project, led by its coordinator RINA Consulting, has submitted feedback to this consultation, emphasizing the potential of multi-functional offshore platforms. These platforms, which integrate fish farming with offshore renewable energy production, are seen as a vital solution for sustainably utilizing marine resources to meet the growing global demand for seafood and clean energy.
